January 3, 2010 – Epiphany Sunday
“Worship the Heart of Epiphany”
There are few passages in God’s Holy Word that has captured the imagination of people than our gospel reading about the visit of the Magi. It combines the supernatural appearance of a star with the mysterious wise men bearing gifts from the East and the evil plotting of an earthly king. It makes for a great story. It is no wonder why we have a day of celebration every year we call Epiphany. And as we ponder this amazing story we must ask ourselves why did God work theses wonders and what is His message to us?

“Why Jesus came in the Flesh”
John in His gospel makes it clear from the very beginning that Jesus life did not begin in Bethlehem for in the “beginning was the Word.” Jesus was the Word – He is the one who became flesh. God becoming Man is the truth and wonder of Christmas. It is what changed the world and hopefully changed your life.
This morning I want us to see this lasting impact of God’s birth on the world and us by thinking about the Word becoming flesh and dwelling with man.

“Ready or not here I come”
Have you ever tried to stop a sunrise- how foolish or silly of a thought? The sunrise was ready to break forth- “ready or not.” And that sunrise began with the birth of a son.
As we turn our thoughts towards our gospel passage in Luke chapter one watch to see if Zechariah was ready or not for what God had in store for him. I hope as we study the announcement of the Birth of John, we will see how the promised baby John helps us to be ready for what God wants in our lives.

December 13, 2009 – Third Sunday in Advent
“Are you stronger than Samson?”
Even in Samson’s self-centered, sinful failures God was at work to help Israel. Isn’t it great to know that even in the midst of our failures- God is still at work for His good and glory. God’s grace abounds and He uses us in spite of our failures. God never abandoned Samson and even in his death God was at work.

“The Birth of Deliverance: Moses a picture of God’s salvation”
Moses was to be killed at birth but instead he is rescued by God fearing midwives then ironically by the Pharaoh’s household the very reason he had to be rescued. God truly works his plan according to His plan. And His plan was to hear the cries of His people and to set them free. God spared Moses and prepared him to deliver the Israelites and bring them to the Promised Land.

November 29, 2009 – First Sunday in Advent
“Advent is no laughing matter…. or is it?”
God wants his children to laugh in joy …and we can and we ought to because of Jesus who is called Emmanuel- God is with us. There is nothing impossible with God and there is joy when we are in His presence. We can only laugh in joy when we know we are safe. We can laugh when we know God is with us. As children of God we have God’s promise that He is with us and we are in His family. It’s a promise that should keep a smile on our face and laughter in our hearts.
