Sunday August 16 2009 – Sabbath: To Keep or Not To Keep
My hope is that you embrace the Sabbath to the best of your ability not as regulation you must keep to earn God’s forgiveness but as a gift to you. God desires mercy and grace towards you. I believe the Sabbath is a gift that expresses God’s love towards His children. I like what William Lane said: As Lord of the Sabbath Jesus delivers both the Sabbath and man from the state of distress.

August 30 2009 – God If You Only Knew

This morning we will continue in Mark’s gospel but instead of a snapshot I want us to look at a portrait: A painting instead of a high resolution picture. Let us stand back and see the beauty and allow the portrait to impact our emotions and speak to our thoughts. For today I hope we can look beyond the tremendous action in Mark’s gospel to see the person the gospel is about- which is Jesus: Jesus who was and is as human as you and me.

Sunday, September 6, 2009 – Jesus Are You Insane or Possessed?
Who is Jesus and why did He act in such a radical way? These are the questions we are called to answer. Is He a mad man, an evil man or is He God your savior? This question is given to all who pick up God’s word and read with an open heart. This question, God places before all man kind- including you and me.

Sunday September 13 2009 – The mystery of the Kingdom of God in the Parable of the Sower

In several ways I view the huge crowds which had gathered around Jesus much like at a Billy graham Crusade. The crowds gathered for a variety of reasons: curiosity, expectation of something good happening, to get help, looking for encouragement, healing, a good show. . . etc. As Jesus taught from the boat on the kingdom of God gazing over the massive crowd which resembled a sea of humanity He was aware that the mystery of the Kingdom was being worked out in their lives. “Some were coming to faith, and others were hardening in unbelief.”

September 27th Sermon: The defeat of Evil

It is the pattern of evil is to destroy. The wake of evil is usually not hard to find: Death, broken lives, pain, and despair. It is not always as easy to spot as men possessed, cutting themselves, yelling wildly profanities wearing no clothes on living in the tombs. No sometimes evil comes with a softer touch like in the garden with lies and deceitfulness

Today the dominant theme is once again the advancement of the Kingdom of God as the power of Christ is demonstrated over demons. We see this in three ways. First we will look at the purpose of Evil. Second, we will look at the defeat of evil. Third we will look at the reaction to Christ power over evil.

October 4th Sermon: Lessons in Faith (Part 1)

Today’s passage does more than reveal the power of Jesus it is a lesson in faith. Mark tells us not only of the mighty acts of Jesus but he carefully pays attention to how faith plays a vital role in God’s Kingdom. We begin to understand that God uses faith connects us to Jesus. . . .

October 11th Sermon: Lessons in Faith (part 2)

Now there is a difference in having faith in Christ and His promises and believing in your own talent. Jesus calls us to have faith in Him. Faith in faith is powerless, hope in hope is empty but faith and hope in Christ is life giving. The power to heal the sick and raise the dead came from Jesus not simply a positive attitude. Biblical faith is rooted and grounded in the person of Christ.

October 25th Sermon: What do you see?

Their unbelief seemed to arise out of this reasoning that No way could God come in such a way. This is not proper- It doesn’t fit the profile of God. Unbelief misses God because unbelief has determined how God ought to look and behave.

Faith recognizes Jesus and believes. Unbelief can’t recognize God because it is looking for the wrong thing. Let us beware when we start to tell God what He should look like or act like. If we do we will not even recognize Him in our midst.

· Unbelief says, “don’t bother to pray”
· Faith says, “I can’t stop praying”
· Unbelief can’t see Jesus
· Faith not only sees him as God but sees Him at work
· Unbelief is offended by even the thought of following God
· Faith walks hand in hand with God through life

November 1, 2009 Sermon: All Saints Day

Today we are celebrating All Saints Day. All Saints Day is when the Church commemorates all saints, known and unknown. We gladly give thanks for all the saints of God who have blessed us as they served the God they loved. We pause today and thank God for giving to us a multitude of godly men and women as examples for us to follow in our lives

On this occasion I want us to turn our thoughts to our epistle reading this morning from Ephesians chapter 2. Our over all focus will be on the Saints of God. The first point will be who is a saint. The second point we will talk about the consecration of the saint. The third point will be on the community or fellowship of the Saints.

November 8 2009 – A Message by Dorothy Oden
“AND THEY WILL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTIANS”

A “Call To Arms” to encourage Christians to interface with Non- Christians, show them Christ’s love. share their faith and then see what God can do. We can hand out leaflets on street corners until we are blue in the face, but ONLY when people see something in US, that they wish they had themselves will they want to know where we got it. THEN they will LISTEN to how they can have it also.”

November 15, 2009 – The beheading of John the Baptist: Triumph or Tragedy?

The weight of Guilt can be an unbearable burden. Fear and suspicion is the close companion of a guilty heart. King Herod must have had his heart freeze in terror hearing John the Baptist who he killed might be alive again. Our Gospel text this morning compares two characters one who life is an example of triumph and one whose life is an example of tragedy. Our Gospel passage in Mark Chapter 6 is an extremely interesting passage that has all the excitement a Hollywood producer would long for in a script. Yet behind the intrigue and gripping story is a message for all of us. In good sermon format I have want us to look at the passage through three points: Truth, Triumph and Tragedy.
