Recessional Hymn 9-13-09

Another Beautiful Service with a Beautiful Ending – I love it – you feel renewed and ready to go out in the world to serve the Lord by serving others. There is a little “Hitchcock” type thing at the end.

Recessional Hymn 9-13-09

September 20, 2009

It’s the birthday of the poet Donald Hall, who said: “I see no reason to spend your life writing poems unless your goal is to write great poems. … To desire to write poems that endure — we undertake such a goal certain of two things: that in all likelihood we will fail, and that if we succeed we will never know it.”

Ozymandias

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

From “Ozymandias”

by Percy Bysshe Shelley who was born this day, August 4 in Sussex, England (1792).

This is a Very Sweet Poem from “The Writer’s Almanac July 30, 2009″
(And I’m not saying that because it has such a great title.)
“Ben”

by David Budbill (Other works by the author)

You can see him in the village almost anytime.
He’s always on the street.
At noon he ambles down to Jerry’s
in case a trucker who’s stopped by for lunch
might feel like buying him a sandwich.
Don’t misunderstand, Ben’s not starving;
he’s there each noon because he’s sociable,
not because he’s hungry.

Poetry

“There is the view that poetry should improve your life. I think people confuse it with the Salvation Army.” John Ashbery, born July 28th in Rochester, New York (1927)
